About

Art making can be a conscious entry into the unconscious, a dance between the intentional and unintentional. I am fascinated with observing people and places and thinking about their stories. Many times, observation and getting lost in the work reveals surprises, messages, metaphors, lessons, and moods. I love capturing a gesture or a hint of what I see to express something we all share. It is my intention to create paintings with richness and energy, that have a history of their own, stop at a moment in time, then develop a relationship with the viewer going forward.

Caroline paints primarily in oil. She is influenced by her love of design, shapes and colors of life, work, and culture. She likes to begin with gestural marks and then through a give and take of working in layers, lets the painting develop.

Bio

Caroline discovered her love for painting as an adult. Earlier, she studied business at the University of Delaware and worked in banking. Following this she shifted careers to graphic design, which she currently practices through Chengraphix, a graphic design firm based in Delaware for 20 years. 

She shows her work regularly in the Hatch Gallery at the Delaware Contemporary where she maintains a studio. She participates in group exhibitions at the Blue Streak Gallery and COCA Gallery in Wilmington, Delaware. 

She is included in the book 100 Artists of the Brandywine Valley by Catherine Quillman, published in 2010 by Schiffer.

Caroline lives and works in Wilmington, Delaware.
